Japan’s quieter Sea of Japan coast, in a loop from Osaka’s gateway airport — the sandbar of Amanohashidate and the boathouses of Ine, three onsen towns, the Tottori Sand Dunes, Matsue Castle, Izumo Oyashiro and the Adachi Museum of Art, with Himeji Castle and Kobe on the way back to KIX.

Day 1
- Arrive Kansai International Airport (KIX) around 7:20
- Japanese lunch
- Amanohashidate — the pine-covered sandbar known as the “bridge to heaven”
- Ine Bay sightseeing cruise past the funaya boathouses (departs 14:00)
- Hotel in Kinosaki Onsen around 16:45, dinner and breakfast buffet
Day 2
- Depart around 8:30
- Tottori Sand Dunes
- The Sand Museum — giant sand sculptures
- Japanese lunch
- Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory — the museum of the Detective Conan creator
- Ryokan in Misasa Onsen around 15:30, dinner at the ryokan
Day 3
- Depart around 8:45
- Kurayoshi Figure Museum
- Sweets Castle “Kotobuki-jo” — sweets factory tour and shop
- Mizuki Shigeru Road — the street of yokai statues in Sakaiminato
- Japanese lunch
- Yushien — Japanese garden famous for its peonies
- Matsue Castle — one of Japan’s twelve original castle keeps and a National Treasure
- Hotel in Izumo (Hirata) around 17:20, dinner can be arranged
Day 4
- Depart hotel around 8:30
- Izumo Oyashiro (Izumo Taisha) — one of Japan’s oldest and most important shrines
- Adachi Museum of Art — famous for its Japanese garden
- Japanese lunch
- Kamochi Shrine — known as the “shrine of the wealthy”
- Hotel in Yunogo Onsen around 17:00, dinner at the hotel
Day 5
- Depart around 8:30
- Himeji Castle — UNESCO World Heritage site
- Kobe Chinatown (Nankinmachi) — Chinese lunch
- Cupnoodles Museum — design your own cup noodle package
- Hotel near Rinku Town Station around 16:30
Day 6
- Depart hotel around 7:45 by train
- Kansai International Airport (KIX) around 8:00
- Departure around 10:00
- ※ The Sand Museum holds a new exhibition every year and is closed between exhibitions (usually January to April).
- ※ The Cupnoodles Museum is closed on Tuesdays.
- ※ Guests with tattoos can use the private hot-spring baths (extra charge) in Misasa Onsen.
- ※ Cherry blossoms at Misasa Onsen, Matsue Castle and Himeji Castle; the peonies at Yushien cover the pond from late April to early May.
